Individual Counselling
"Owning our story can be hard,
but not nearly as difficult as spending our lives running from it."
Brené Brown The Gifts of Imperfection.
Life will always present challenges.
Sometimes these challenges are overwhelming, resulting in stress, loss, anxiety, depression or anguish. We lose the joy in our day-to-day life and our well-being and relationships suffer.
I understand this.
"The main problem in your life is not what has happened to you, not what people have done to you:
Your main problem is how you have responded to that. Ironically this is empowering. Why?
Because you can't do very much about what happened to you
or about what other people are doing -
but you can do something about yourself" Tim Keller
Sometimes we unconsciously hold on to unhelpful conclusions,
limiting core beliefs, default mindsets
from the way we were brought up
or from the impact of significant events or trauma that have happened.
We may have responded to these negative events, losses or disappointments
in the best way we knew how to at the time,
to cope, to survive, to protect ourselves -
however our emotional/unconscious brain's learning, the meaning we have taken
can affect our thinking and create unhealthy ways of dealing with the future
This is normal to do this but unexamined can create a lot of unnecessary suffering for our future selves.
Counselling provides a safe and supportive environment where issues can be clarified,
and options and ways of navigating these can be explored.
Effective strategies can be developed that meet the needs of each client in bringing about positive change and healing from past hurts, loss, injury, and confusion.
Common reasons for individual counselling:
Grief and loss
Communication and relationship difficulties at home or work
Work and career challenges or goals
Stress, anxiety or depression
Life transitions - such as the birth of a new baby, separation, divorce, or death of a family member or friend
Parenting help
Addiction, abuse, trauma, self-esteem
I can help you with this.
I will not judge what has happened to you, what you have done,
or experienced.
All these things are common human experiences.
You’ll be surprised how ordinary, everyday folk struggle with the same things you struggle with.
So come, and let’s talk and find a way forward.
